Goodbye Red Caboose

Last week, after 3 great years there, Owen said goodbye to Red Caboose (Zora too, but we are still hoping she might go back there at some point). We decided that it made more sense for Ken to stay home during the day with the kids for the summer and work mainly nights and weekends. Red Caboose was such a great place for Owen and Zora and for us. We were so fortunate that Owen ended up there when we moved to Madison. The teachers were so wonderful and I never doubted that our kids were get great care, love and nurturing there. But it was more than that. There was a real sense of community there. I met and became friends with many other parents there and got to know so many of the other kids there and watched them grow up along with Owen. And then we got to see some of there younger siblings with Zora this past year. So I took the afternoon off to drop by and hang out for awhile on Owen's last afternoon there, to take some pictures and say goodbye. Owen shed some tears in the weeks leading up to his last day, saying that he didn't want to be done at Red Caboose. But on Thursday, I didn't see any tears from him. But me, that's a different story. I got choked up a couple of times but then, when Owen was saying goodbye to one of his favorite teachers, Leigh, I started to cry. And then I looked over and saw another parent who was there to pick up her daughter on her last day, and she had tears in her eyes too. And we both smiled and laughed.
